Joe and Pat Richter's burden for the poor inspired them to join the U.S. Peace Corps program in 1971.  They served for two years in the Philippines.  Joe worked in fisheries and Pat worked in a nutrition program for mothers and young malnourished children.  In 1984 they returned to the Philippines as agricultural and church planting missionaries.  There they partnered with FARMS International to provide interest free revolving loans to impoverished tribal believers.  Upon their return to the U.S.A. in 1991, Joe was offered the positron of Executive Director of FARMS International, Inc., he continues to serve in that position
